Why an author website is important
When it comes to your author platform, there are only two digital assets that you truly “own”: your website and your email list.
Social media is a distribution channel. It’s like sending out printed fliers through the post office (except less reliable).
While social media has it’s place in your author career strategy, it’s a public space that you don’t control. You have to rely on the algorithms to get visibility. You have no guarantees that the platform you choose will be around forever. Social media users (authors and their readers) get their accounts hacked, banned, or shut down all the time.
A website is an asset that you own and control.
- It improves discoverability of you and your books.
- It serves as a central hub for all your content and materials, so nothing disappears.
- It increases your credibility in the eyes of readers and industry professionals.
